Overview
Manufacturing is a longstanding pillar of Manitoba’s diverse economy. Our multidisciplinary team represents a broad range of commercial manufacturers, from national-scale businesses headquartered in our region to specialized small and mid-sized producers. Our clients include manufacturers in the transportation, agriculture, food and beverage, chemicals, aerospace and textile industries.
We work closely with our clients to help them expand into new markets and grow through acquisitions, safeguard and monetize their intellectual property, manage their industrial relations, acquire and sell assets, address domestic and cross-border tax and regulatory concerns and support changes to their corporate structure.
Representative Transactions
- Acted for MacDon Group of Companies in connection with its sale to Linamar Corporation for a total purchase price of $1.2 billion
- Acted for a local equipment manufacturer on the establishment of the appropriate subsidiaries in the U.S., South America, China, Europe, Australia, and the former Soviet Union, ensuring the manufacturer had a complete trademark portfolio in each of these regions
- Retained by one of North America’s largest manufacturers of pastries for the on-the-go market to prevent a competitor based in Canada from entering the U.S. with similar goods under a trademark similar to that of our client and from selling in Canada goods similar to those of our client under a similar trademark
