Litigation & Dispute Resolution
Overview
With some of Manitoba’s most accomplished litigators practising at Fillmore Riley, we provide services in all areas of litigation, including insurance, commercial disputes, taxation dispute resolution, shareholders disputes, contractual disputes, banking, medical malpractice, professional liability, construction, defamation and media and intellectual property.
Because of our litigation team’s capacity, we are retained for some of the most substantive and complex litigation in Manitoba. Our firm has a number of high-profile and sought-after senior litigators to handle significant, complicated commercial litigation cases. We also have extensive administrative and regulatory law practices related to public utilities, professional discipline and professional errors and omissions matters.
Fillmore Riley’s large litigation department provides particular depth in insurance law. The insurance group works in all areas of property, casualty and specialty insurance lines. The firm represents most of Canada’s major national insurers, a variety of international insurers and many large programs. It also acts for a number of brokers, agents and adjusting firms involved in the insurance industry. Our litigators have represented clients before all levels of court and at tribunals and inquiries. Fillmore Riley is a founding member of the Risk Management Counsel of Canada (RMC). RMC is a national association of independent law firms that work together to handle multijurisdictional insurance law matters.
With extensive trial and appellate advocacy experience, the firm has been instrumental in developing court rules to expedite the litigation process. Many of Fillmore Riley’s lawyers are experienced in alternative dispute resolution (ADR), and our team played a leading role in promoting and expanding these techniques in Manitoba.
Our litigators are able to act immediately, in all practice areas, in emergency actions such as seeking injunctive relief. As well, our litigators have extensive experience in alternative dispute resolutions and mediations. Depending on the circumstances, members of this practice group can provide you with appropriate legal and strategic advice and guidance in resolving disputes.
We also have an established estates and trusts litigation group. Our estates and trusts lawyers help clients resolve disputes involving estates, trusts, and estate and trusts administration.
