Anita Southall receives the Manitoba Bar Association’s 2021 Isabel Ross MacLean Hunt Award

The Manitoba Bar Association (MBA) announced that Anita Southall is the recipient of the 2021 Isabel Ross MacLean Hunt Award. The award celebrates a Manitoba Canadian Bar Association member whose contributions as a role model for women lawyers deserve special recognition.

Isabel Ross MacLean Hunt was one of the first women to attend law school in Manitoba. In 1916, she was the first woman to earn a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Manitoba.

Anita has mentored articling students and associates at Fillmore Riley and informally outside of the firm. She has held leadership roles with community organizations and with the Law Society of Manitoba, including being elected the 99th President of The Law Society of Manitoba.

Anita has practised law at Fillmore Riley for 33 years. Her practice focuses on estates and trusts management, including estate administration and litigation. She is recognized by Best Lawyers, an established and respected peer-review publication in the legal profession, in the area of Wills & Estates Law.

Anita has a long history of giving back to her community and doing pro bono work. She was awarded the 2011 Pro Bono Award for assistance on Daniels v. Daniels and Fontaine v.
