Fillmore Riley commits to raising $45,000 for CancerCare Manitoba

With our 30-member team comprised of walkers and fundraising volunteers, Fillmore Riley has committed to raising $45,000 for CancerCare Manitoba through our participation in Challenge for Life 2.0.

Through our past involvement in the Challenge for Life Walk and the Dragon Boat Festival, we have raised more than $250,000 that went towards helping Manitobans affected by cancer.

We selected a team name that’s appropriate for our profession. In court, a motion to strike is a procedural device made by a party to have an entire cause of action removed or “stricken” from the court record. Fillmore Riley’s Motion to Strike Cancer wants to see cancer-stricken or eradicated.

“Cancer has touched everyone at our firm. We want our community to have access to the best care and benefit from clinical trials and research,” said Motion to Strike Cancer’s team captain, Stuart Blake, a partner of Fillmore Riley and a member of the Board of Directors at CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.

CancerCare Manitoba Foundation raises funds and annually contributes more than $6,500,000 to CancerCare Manitoba to help deliver the best research, patient care, treatment and support for all Manitobans.

Motion to Strike Cancer has 20 team members who have each committed to raising $500 and to walk 20 kilometres through some of Winnipeg’s most scenic neighbourhoods on June 8, 2019. With the help of our fundraising team and the donations from staff and lawyers, Motion to Strike Cancer will exceed the $10,000 minimum we must raise as a team.

Fillmore Riley will sponsor the massage tent, located in Assiniboine Park, where walkers are encouraged to go after the 20-kilometre trek or the 200 non-continuous minutes of fitness. We will be handing out massage balls that participants can use on their own after sports or other healthy activities that help to reduce the risk of cancer.
