A tribute to our colleague and friend, Ross Yarnell, K.C.
Overview
Fillmore Riley team members mourn the loss of our friend and alumnus, Ross Yarnell. Ross passed away on September 29 after a brief illness.
In 1952, namesake partner W.P. Fillmore interviewed Ross Yarnell, a graduate of the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Law, and decided the bright student was a good fit. He proved to be a quick study and established himself as one of Winnipeg's leading banking and financial services lawyers.
Throughout Ross’s 53-year career at Fillmore Riley, he exemplified the firm’s values, practising law with the utmost integrity and providing premium client service. Ross’s practice focused on transactional and financing work with RBC and other financial institutions. He forged strong relationships in the banking sector and ensured clients received exceptional service. His excellence as a practitioner was recognized in 1978 when he was appointed Queen’s Counsel.
Deeply committed to his community, Ross gave back throughout his career. In 2005, Ross was made an Honorary Life Member of the Winnipeg Citizen’s Advisory Board of the Salvation Army.
Although Ross retired in 2005, he remained an integral part of the firm’s culture, attending golf tournaments, retirement parties and, most recently, the firm’s 140th anniversary dinner, where he received special recognition for his contributions.
Ross always made the time to share his wealth of knowledge about Fillmore Riley’s history.
Ross will be deeply missed but never forgotten by those of us who had the honour and pleasure of knowing him. Ross, rest in peace.
